Lungfish Research (2011 to present)
Queensland Lungfish are one of six an ancient species found around the world. Kris Pitman assisted Seqwater with the study of lungfish populations in both the North Pine and Brisbane River systems. Mark and recapture with PIT tags has been undertaken in both river systems to generate population estimates. The project has tagged 1196 lungfish in the North Pine River and 2169 fish in the Brisbane River. The research also included a large acoustic telemetry project that was undertaken in the North Pine Dam. This project documented fish movement in the dam and aimed to identify ways to prevent fish from being washed over the dam wall during flow releases.

Threatened species Research
While working with both Victorian and NSW State Governments and at Southern Cross University Kris Pitman worked on several research projects that targeted various threatened species, such as trout cod, eastern freshwater cod, dwarf galaxias, southern pygmy perch, Oxleyan pygmy perch, Australian grayling and Macquarie perch. Areas of research include, distribution surveys, population dynamics, population estimate studies, genetics and habitat use.
