Installation of a PIT tag monitoring system on Bromelton and Cedar Grove Weirs (Client Seqwater) (2011 and 2012)

Kris Pitman was engaged to install a Karltek PIT (Passive Inductive Transponder) tagging systems on both Bromelton and Cedar Grove Weirs. The automated system uses three scanning antenna within the fishway to detect the movement of tagged fish. These systems have been in place for seven to eight years and have provided data on the movement of several fish species. The PIT systems on these two weirs are among the most advanced systems installed in Australia; this is because they are able to detect very small PIT tags allowing smaller fish to be included in the PIT tag data.
